Title: Jenny's Blue Velvet
Author: Angela Carlie
Publication date: August 22nd 2013
Genre: Adult Romantic Thriller

Tour organized by: Xpresso Book Tours

~ Synopsis ~

Jenny's stuck.

She's tried just about every occupation she can think of and will be digging out of student debt for a very long time, but has nothing to show for it. Her everyday routine feels like a prison. And her marriage? Well, let's just say it's been a little one-sided lately and the money she threw down on the toys from Lover's Erotic Store was well worth it and then some.

Jenny decides her next big step is to become a romance writer. Romance books are flying off the virtual shelves, after all. This will be her next big break, her escape from the prison, and a way to freedom. Self-publishing is all the rage these days. She'll be a best seller in no time.

When Jenny makes friends with a woman named Cassandra from the gym, she instantly decides that her new friend will make a perfect main character in her upcoming book. After the first chapter, real life begins to resemble the fiction she's writing. Her friendship blossoms, sex with her husband turns into a daily feast, and her job gets more interesting with each chapter written.

Out of the blue, a person who is a close friend with her husband and who is dating Cassandra disappears. As the mystery behind the missing person unfolds, Jenny wonders if she might be responsible for his possible death. And if she is, what will be the consequence? What has this writing business gotten her into?

JENNY'S BLUE VELVET is a dark, humorous, romantic thriller for adults only

~ My Thoughts ~

My Rating: 5 / 5

If Fight Club and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind had a book baby, this would be it. I'm stunned speechless, and that almost never happens! When I finished reading, my first thought was I really need someone to talk about this book with! It's freaking crazy, and I love it. Every character and every event plays a role in this story and in a shocking way. I had to go back and reread the ending just to make sure I didn't miss something.

Jenny is such a snarky character, and I had a lot of fun getting to know her. She easily made me laugh. There were also times I wanted to cry. This character talks to you as though you're a close friend she's confiding in, and you feel like you're in on a secret with her.

I recommend that you set aside a few hours to read Jenny's Blue Velvet all the way through in one sitting and give yourself time to process it. Once you get into it, you aren't going to want to put it down anyway. I know once I started reading it, it would've taken an army to drag me away.

~ Meet the Author: Angela Carlie ~

I've lived in the state of Washington my entire life. Sure, it rains a lot, but that's what makes it so beautiful here. I'd like to say it's the most beautiful place on the planet, but I have yet to travel the world. Someday I'll know for sure.

I write fiction involving young people. Mainstream publishing would label my writing as YA or middle grade. Since I'm an indie author, I can skip over the labels and tell you that each one of my stories is unique, can be read and enjoyed by all ages, and almost always has a young person as the protagonist. Authors write what they know and I don't know old yet. I may someday write about older people, but that's so far in the future that I can't see it yet.

  1. You can talk to me, Jennifer! ;) Your review goes to show that books affect every reader differently...I really had a hard time connecting to Jenny. Even though the blurb made me think we were kindred spirits. :) BUT I really liked her novel. Maybe it's just because I've NEVER read anything like this (that I can remember) and it was really just a mind #*@* for me. LOL Literally, when I finished it I said aloud "I think this is the weirdest book I've ever read" I'm glad you enjoyed it so much! I did finish it in one sitting. And Jenny definitely made me want to cry at times. Anyway, I liked JBV but didn't connect with Jenny the way you did.

    1. Yes! I saw last night on Goodreads you had read it, too, and I was like, dear lord, I have a lot I want to say that I couldn't in my review without giving a ton away. And this is a book that is hard to review without giving anything away. I feel like we need a support group, lol.

Hahaha! I thought at the end, this was a total mind f#*@, too! Great minds think a like. It was twisted, and I loved that about it! Another strange book I've read not too long ago was All Our Pretty Songs by Sarah McCarry. The first half was like a normal contemporary YA novel, and then halfway through turned paranormal. It didn't get a lot of positive reviews, but I loved it. As you know my love for Donnie Darko, the dark and the twisted are my faves. :)

  2. You will be so good at pitching books, Jennifer! The first line of your review is perfect. Man, I have to come up with a pitch for my books for a writer's conference I'm going to in October and I'm all dizzy about it! I need to go back through your reviews for one liner inspiration. I'm glad you loved this book so much. Happy reading!

    1. Wow, thanks Robyn!! It really does remind me of those two movies, lol. I can't wait to hear about the conference you're going to! I'm jealous! ;D I loved your books, so I can help, although I don't think you'll need it. ;) You're well spoken and thoughtful. :D
