Author: Kate Evangelista
Release date: December 2013
Publisher: Crescent Moon Press
Genre: New Adult, Fantasy, Romance
Source: Review copy

~ Synopsis ~

Mature and explicit content. Not recommended for readers below 18-years-old. Yup, you've got to be that old to read my story. Consider yourself warned.

I'm Dakota Collins, a tough talking, eye patch wearing, workaholic photography student. Why am I important? Well, maybe because I get to spend an entire month with Vicious, only the sickest indie rock band out there.

You see, I needed a subject for my Spring Showcase introspective in order to graduate. During a chance encounter at a club I'd been sent to cover for the Daily Gossip, our ironically named college paper, the features writer I usually teamed up with introduced me to the band - by accident, I might add. It involved a run in with a scary, bald bodyguard. Anyway, long story short, I signed a contract to take pictures of Vicious.

I should have known their handsome yet way too serious for his own good bassist, Luka Visraya, wouldn't be able to keep his hands to himself. He's gorgeous and all, but the way he smiles spelled trouble with a capital L. I'm in for a long month with him around.

Crazy shit happens and then some. So, if you want the skinny on Vicious and the events revolving around my stay at Lunar Manor, read my story.

Again, refer to the warning above.

~ My Thoughts ~

I. Am. Addicted. SAVOR was so flippin' awesome, I need more! Dakota swept me away the minute she stepped out of the cab at the club opening the very first page of the book. I don't think I've met many characters who are as cool as she is. She's rockin' that eye patch. Yes, she has an eye patch - the first character I've read about wearing an eye patch who isn't a pirate - and she checks for it often, feeling comforted when she has confirmed it's in place. While she has some vulnerability and insecurity, she is for the most part bold and outspoken, and I adored her.

SAVOR has a mysterious and alluring atmosphere, much of that due to Vicious, the band Dakota stays with to photograph for her project in order to graduate college. I was drawn in immediately, and my attention was completely captured. When I read SAVOR, I didn't realize TASTE is a prequel and haven't read TASTE yet, but this didn't affect my take on the story at all. As a matter of fact, I'm looking forward to TASTE and seeing the characters' history together, not to mention having it to tide me over until the next book comes out!

Speaking of the characters besides Dakota, I liked them all. They were well characterized, each with his or her own personality. It really did feel like the band was a family that Dakota grew to be a part of. I loved the group dynamic. I wasn't terribly fond of Luka's sister at first, but she became one of my favorite characters other than Dakota.

Luka Visraya. His name alone is sexy let alone the fact that he's hot and a rockstar. The chemistry between Luka and Dakota sizzles, melting the pages I swear! There were mood swings, tenderness, and just a mass of all different emotions surrounding the two of them. I was so engrossed in the story that I didn't pay attention to the paranormal undercurrents of the story until the ending. What ends up happening to them was nothing I could have imagined. I am dying to find out what happens next. It's going to be a long wait for the second book!

~ My Rating: 5 / 5 ~

Excerpt

"Did I really try to kiss you?"

He almost missed a step at the sudden change of topic. "We're back to that?"

"I thought I was with Niko," she said.

"I take it the experience wasn't pleasant? Nikolas can do that to people."

"It sounds like you hate him for some reason. Why?"

If it weren't for the real curiosity in her eyes, Balthazar wouldn't have answered her question. "We do things we're not proud of. Nikolas more than most."

"You know him."

A statement with more truth in it than anything he could say. Everyone knew Nickolas. a little too well for more than most. There lay the problem. Arianne knew Nikolas as the teenage high school boy. Balthazar knew Nikolas as the take no prisoners Reaper who occasionally did D's dirty work. Nikolas could have easily been third in the rankings, maybe even D's right hand, but he maintained his Reaper of Georgia status to keep under the radar for the side missions he would be given. It baffled Balthazar that Arianne didn't seem to know this about Nikolas.

"You're in love with him," he responded.

"Since I started high school."

Nikolas? Entertaining love? From a human, no less. "And how's that going for you?"
