and I couldn't have been more right.

Title: Dead Girl Walking
Series: Royal Reaper #1
Author: Ruth Silver
Expected Publication: Summer 2014
Publisher: Patchwork Press

Cover Design: Erica Crouch

Blurb:

In 1346, Princess Ophelia Dacre sneaks out of the castle to visit her boyfriend in secret. A perfect night cut short when she's brutally murdered.

Ophelia is given the rare chance to become a grim reaper. She must become Leila Bele, cut ties with her old life, and follow the rules of the reapers. Her greatest adventure begins with death.

Add: Goodreads

Excerpt:

"The scroll chose you. For whatever reason, she's your reap."
"Well, that sucks." Leila chewed her bottom lip. "If I don't do it?"
Edon hesitated before he said, "Her soul will rot inside her body. Do you have any idea what that's like? She'll be a living corpse, a shell of a person. She won't feel anything including love. We as reapers, the undead, feel more than she ever will alive."
Leila swallowed the lump in her throat. "How do you know that?"
"Because I've seen what it does to a person," Edon said. "That little girl deserves better."

Blog Tour: Review & Giveaway ~ Savor by Kate Evangelista

Hey guys! Welcome to my stop on the Savor Blog Tour hosted by Paranormal Cravings Book Tours. Click here for the full blog tour schedule. :D

Title: Savor
Series: Vicious Feast #1
Author: Kate Evangelista
Release date: December 2013
Publisher: Crescent Moon Press
Genre: New Adult, Fantasy, Romance
Source: Review copy

~ Synopsis ~

Mature and explicit content. Not recommended for readers below 18-years-old. Yup, you've got to be that old to read my story. Consider yourself warned.

I'm Dakota Collins, a tough talking, eye patch wearing, workaholic photography student. Why am I important? Well, maybe because I get to spend an entire month with Vicious, only the sickest indie rock band out there.

You see, I needed a subject for my Spring Showcase introspective in order to graduate. During a chance encounter at a club I'd been sent to cover for the Daily Gossip, our ironically named college paper, the features writer I usually teamed up with introduced me to the band - by accident, I might add. It involved a run in with a scary, bald bodyguard. Anyway, long story short, I signed a contract to take pictures of Vicious.

I should have known their handsome yet way too serious for his own good bassist, Luka Visraya, wouldn't be able to keep his hands to himself. He's gorgeous and all, but the way he smiles spelled trouble with a capital L. I'm in for a long month with him around.

Crazy shit happens and then some. So, if you want the skinny on Vicious and the events revolving around my stay at Lunar Manor, read my story.

Again, refer to the warning above.

~ My Thoughts ~

I. Am. Addicted. SAVOR was so flippin' awesome, I need more! Dakota swept me away the minute she stepped out of the cab at the club opening the very first page of the book. I don't think I've met many characters who are as cool as she is. She's rockin' that eye patch. Yes, she has an eye patch - the first character I've read about wearing an eye patch who isn't a pirate - and she checks for it often, feeling comforted when she has confirmed it's in place. While she has some vulnerability and insecurity, she is for the most part bold and outspoken, and I adored her.

SAVOR has a mysterious and alluring atmosphere, much of that due to Vicious, the band Dakota stays with to photograph for her project in order to graduate college. I was drawn in immediately, and my attention was completely captured. When I read SAVOR, I didn't realize TASTE is a prequel and haven't read TASTE yet, but this didn't affect my take on the story at all. As a matter of fact, I'm looking forward to TASTE and seeing the characters' history together, not to mention having it to tide me over until the next book comes out!

Speaking of the characters besides Dakota, I liked them all. They were well characterized, each with his or her own personality. It really did feel like the band was a family that Dakota grew to be a part of. I loved the group dynamic. I wasn't terribly fond of Luka's sister at first, but she became one of my favorite characters other than Dakota.

Luka Visraya. His name alone is sexy let alone the fact that he's hot and a rockstar. The chemistry between Luka and Dakota sizzles, melting the pages I swear! There were mood swings, tenderness, and just a mass of all different emotions surrounding the two of them. I was so engrossed in the story that I didn't pay attention to the paranormal undercurrents of the story until the ending. What ends up happening to them was nothing I could have imagined. I am dying to find out what happens next. It's going to be a long wait for the second book!

~ My Rating: 5 / 5 ~

Blog Tour: Review, Excerpt & Giveaway! ~ North Pole Reform School by Jaimie Admans

Hey guys, welcome to my stop on the North Pole Reform School Blog Tour hosted by Oops I Read Again. Click here to follow along with the full tour schedule. :D

Title: North Pole Reform School
Author: Jaimie Admans
Publication date: November 6th 2013
Genre: YA rom-com, fantasy

~ Synopsis ~

Mistletoe Bell hates Christmas. So would you if you had a name like hers. Her Christmas-mad parents make the festive season last all year, and with another Christmas looming, Mis doesn't think she can take any more. After her carelessness causes an accident at school, it seems like things can't get any worse.

Then she wakes up to find The Ghost of Christmases Ruined in her bedroom.

She is taken to the North Pole, to a reform school run by elves determined to make her love Christmas. Stuck in a misfit group of fellow Christmas-haters with a motley crew of the weird and even weirder, watched over by elves day and night, she doesn't expect to meet cute and funny Luke, who is hiding a vulnerable side beneath his sarcastic exterior. She doesn't expect to fall in love with him.

But all is not as it should be at the North Pole. A certain Mr. Claus is making the elves' lives a misery, and pretty soon Mistletoe and Luke are doing more than just learning to like Christmas.

A YA romantic comedy in which Santa is the bad guy, teaching reindeer to fly is the curriculum, and zombies have a fondness for Christmas music.

Suitable for older teens and upwards due to bad language.

~ My Thoughts ~

My Rating: 4 / 5

What do you get when you mix a forty-something alcoholic, a girl named Mistletoe, a teenaged boy who might have elf blood, a woman who thinks ducks are watching her, and a little boy who thinks he's dead? North Pole Reform School! And if you think this group of characters sound like they have nothing in common - I can tell you they do. They all hate Christmas and have been sent to the North Pole Reform School to learn how their actions have hurt others. Who's going to teach them? Elves of course!

With a name like Mistletoe, I can't blame her for not being fond of Christmas. The entire month of December would be a nightmare. I loved her right away. There were so many funny and clever moments throughout the book that I laughed out loud while reading, I really did. It was the kind of laughing that can make other people look at you strangely, too, but that just made those moments even better.

At times the mood of the story became serious, too. The characters all bring up good points as to why they've been brought there and react in believable ways. They're understandably ticked off, and they want to know how being kidnapped to the North Pole is going to make them love Christmas. Exactly! I had a lot of fun finding out why they were all gathered there, how the elves would teach them, and whether the characters would change or not.

Mistletoe and Luke grow as characters while they become close - there's nothing like starting off a relationship by waking up at the North Pole surrounded by elves! ;) I loved both of these characters, and I loved them even more together. I couldn't help but find the story behind Mistletoe's name cute. I wouldn't want her name, but it is a sweet story.

I'm so jealous I didn't dream this book up! The snark level was ah-mazing - I'm so happy to not only have discovered this book but also Jaimie Admans. It's my mission to read every book she writes!

~ Excerpt ~

It started with a purple moose.

At least I thought it was a moose. On reflection, it could have been a reindeer, but it didn't matter at the time because it was obviously just a dream.

"Mistletoe," the moose-reindeer said.

Yep. Still hate my parents for naming me that.

"Mistletoe," it said again in a spooky echo of a voice, "I am the Ghost of Christmases Ruined, and I have come to tell you something."

"Go away." I turned over in bed.

"Mistletoe Bell," it said sharply. "Listen to me right now."

I sat up, suddenly wide awake. God, what a freaky dream.

"Mistletoe Bell," it said again. I jumped out of my skin. I clutched the duvet to me as I turned around. Of all the things I expected to see, the purple moose sitting in the middle of my carpet and looking annoyed was about the last of them.

"Wh...what are you?" I asked quietly. I didn't really believe my eyes. I must still be dreaming.

"I've tried to tell you already. I am the Ghost of Christmases Ruined."

I tried to pinch myself awake without the moose noticing. It didn't work. I didn't wake up and the moose noticed.

"It won't work," the moose said. "You're already awake."

"I'm looking at a talking purple moose. I don't think so."

"You are Mistletoe Bell?" the moose asked.

I dropped my head into my hands and edged closer to the other side of the bed.

The moose continued to look at me expectantly.

"Unfortunately, yes. I couldn't be anyone else with that stupid name."

"It's a very nice Christmas name."

"That's exactly the bloody problem. You try having a stupid Christmassy name in the middle of July or something."

"Ah yes, but it's December now."

"Screw December," I muttered.

"Aha," the moose said. "This is exactly why I'm here."

I gave it an angry look. "What the hell are you going on about?"

"Well, if you'd be so kind as to allow me to get to my point, I will enlighten you."

I sighed in frustration.

"Mistletoe Bell," the moose said, "you have been charged with ruining Christmas. Multiple counts over the years, but a particularly aggressive case this year when taking into account the fire--"

"The fire was an accident."

It gave me a glare and I rolled my eyes. "Please go on," I said, complete with a sarcastic hand gesture.

"As I was saying..." The moose had an annoyed tone to its voice now. "Ruining Christmas, multiple counts, we can't let it continue. We've been keeping an eye on you for a while now. We were actually hoping you might grow out of it now you're nearly seventeen, but the fire this year is the final straw. Mistletoe--"

"Please stop calling me that." I interrupted it again. "It's Mis, Misty, or nothing."

The moose rolled its eyes. "I am required to call you by your proper name at all times. Now, can we get on with it?"

"Get on with what?"

"Mistletoe Bell, tomorrow you will be taken to the North Pole where you will stay until you can learn how to behave acceptably and stop ruining Christmas for others. You will be part of a group who will learn the value of Christmas to all involved."

"That's ridiculous. Who's going to teach me? The polar bears?"

"The elves will teach you."

"Of course they will." I smacked my forehead. "Of course there are elves. I don't know why I expected anything else from a purple moose."

The moose made a frustrated noise. "Mistletoe, do you understand?"

"I will be taken to the North Pole and taught by elves? Yes, I understand perfectly."

"I must be on my way. Sweet dreams, Mistletoe." The moose got up and jumped out of the window.

I rolled over and went back to sleep. I must've eaten cheese before bed last night or something. There were more weird dreams. I dreamt of flying above the rooftops and over the oceans, and it was really, really cold. I'm pretty sure I could hear strains of "Walking in the Air" in the distance.

~ Interview with Olivia Rivers ~

Q: What inspired you to write "Counting Shadows"?

A: I've always loved Epic Fantasy, whether I'm reading it or writing it. One day, about a year ago, I had this random thought of, "What if I took a bunch of Urban Fantasy creatures, and transferred them into an Epic Fantasy world?" And voila! "Counting Shadows" was born.

Q: Is there ever going to be a romance between Lor and Faye?

A: Perhaps. Faye will definitely end up in a serious relationship, as will Lor. But whether or not they'll end up together is a question only answered in the next book in the series.

Q: Who is your favorite character to write in the "Duplicity" series?

A: Cyrus, most definitely. Readers see very little of him in "Counting Shadows," but he plays a major role in the rest of the series. He's a Dragon/Fairy hybrid, who is slowly going insane, like all hybrids eventually do. He also happens to have a major crush on Lor. His insanity makes him a difficult character to write, but also an extremely fun one. Also, his history with Lor is so heartbreaking that it makes me wish Cyrus was a real person, just so I could give him a hug.

Q: You're currently a high school student. How does your young age influence your writing?

A: It really doesn't influence my writing very much. I go through the exact same process as any other author: drafting, rewrites, alpha readers, beta readers, line edits, etc. I try not to let my age get in the way of creating a good book, and I never use it as an excuse for my mistakes.

Q: Who did the cover for "Counting Shadows"?

A: I do all my own covers. It's a time-consuming process, but I adore digital art, and I just love having control over this aspect of publishing.

Q: What's the hardest part about being an author?

A: For me, it's the first draft. I despise first drafts with a passion. They're so messy and bad and icky. I always celebrate when I finish a first draft, because I know the worst part is over, and I can have fun rewriting and editing.

Q: What's your favorite part about being an author?

A: My readers are by far my favorite part. It's the absolute best feeling in the world to have people contact me about my books. I've had people from practically every continent email me about my novels, and it's a wonderful feeling to know that my writing gives some people joy.

Q: When will the next book in the "Duplicity" series be coming out?

A: "Eluding Light", the second book of the "Duplicity" series, will be out March 2014.

Excerpt:

"Satisfied?" Sebastian said.

"No," she said with a frown.

He opened his mouth to protest and closed it with an audible click when she got up and moved so that her body was snuggled next to his and her arms were around his shoulders.

They said nothing for the moment. Ciardis felt the slow rise and fall of Sebastian's bare chest under her hand. She was trying to avoid touching the angry bruise he had going down his right half.

She said, "I thought you had died, Sebastian. That you had left me alone. That we would never kiss again, never speak again, never touch again."

He shifted his head slightly underneath her chin so that his head rested on her chest. "I'm sorry."

"Sorry for what?"

"Sorry for worrying you," he whispered.

"You should be."

He laughed gently.

Shifting his head, he said with hope in his voice, "Speaking of kisses..."

She swatted his shoulder. "No."

"But--"

"No, the healer says you need to rest--"

"But I feel fine," he whined.

"Go to sleep, Sebastian," she whispered. "There's much to do tomorrow."

"Will you be here?"

"I will."

As he drifted off she laid a chaste kiss on his hair and a single tear dropped onto his head. Gripping the Prince Heir tightly, she, too, drifted off to sleep.

When she woke it was because of noise outside of the tent.

A guard was whispering, "Prince Heir Sebastian. Lady Weathervane. The major is here to report to you."

Ciardis shifted, preparing to rise up and tell them that the Prince Heir was still resting.

Sebastian beat her to it. "Come in."

She still stood up. Sebastian groaned at the removal of her presence from his bed.

The major cleared his throat and entered the room.

He nodded briefly to Ciardis. "Four hours have passed, sire. It is approaching the early evening. We lost two hundred men in the skirmishes, with many more wounded."

Sebastian nodded and with a wince sat up in the bed. Ciardis moved forward as if to stop him, and he said, "No, I need to see to the wounded, Ciardis."

"Besides," Sebastian said casually, "if I collapse again, at least it'll be in the healer's tent."
