The Reading Habit Survey!

I love taking surveys and reading different answers from different people who've taken them. So when I found this reading habit survey at Great Imaginations (they found it at Heroic Endeavors), I knew I wanted to fill it out! Okay, I feel like I just made that sound more complicated than it is, lol. :P

By the way, if you're ever looking for bloggers to tag for surveys, tag me, tag me! I'll do it! :D

Do you snack while you read? If so, favourite reading snack:

Sometimes. I love those 100 calorie packs of popcorn. I like something that isn't greasy, something that won't make my fingers all gross for when I'm turning pages or am using my Kindle. Say I'm eating chips. I hate having to wipe my hands on my pants so I can keep my books/Kindle nice, lol!

What's your favorite drink while reading?

Oh my god, Diet Coke for sure!

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the thought of writing in books horrify you?

Gotta be honest, the thought alone horrifies me. I'd probably kill somebody if they wrote in one of mine. If I felt the need to take notes while reading, there's always post-it notes. No way am I writing in a book - it feels sacrilegious.

How do you keep your place while reading a book?

My Kindle keeps it for me, and if I'm reading a physical book, I always use a bookmark. My daughter is constantly losing bookmarks, so I'm constantly buying them! Sometimes I might use a scrap piece of notebook paper if I'm too lazy or can't find one of my bookmarks.

Fiction, non-fiction, or both?

Most of the time fiction, but sometimes I like reading non-fiction titles like Tina Fey's Bossypants and Jenny Lawson's Let's Pretend this Never Happened, both of which were HILARIOUS!!

Are you the type of person who tends to read to the end of the chapter, or can you stop anywhere?

I can stop anywhere, but when I pick up the book again, I start at the beginning of the chapter. It's a weird quirk of mine. :D

Are you the type of person to throw a book across the room or onto the floor if the author irritates you?

I've only wanted to throw a book once before but have never actually done it even though I REALLY wanted to!

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you look it up right away?

I look it up unless the context gives me a good enough definition. I've learned many new words this way. :)

What are you currently reading?

I have 25% left to read of Lennon's Hope by Chris Myers. As the last book in the Lennon's Girls trilogy, it's super heart wrenching! I have to take breaks away from the heavy emotions this book brings out in me, which says a lot about the talent Chris Myers has in making you feel deeply for these characters. I've been with them through thick and thin and am highly anticipating how this is all gonna go down in the end.

What's the last book you bought?

Some of the ones I've bought are Hereafter by Tara Hudson and the Pandora Book Set where there's twenty novels/novellas by twenty different authors.

Do you have a favorite time/place to read?

The best time for me to read is when I know I'm not going to be distracted or interrupted. The only time this would be is at night when everyone's asleep. I love reading in bed. I really wish I had a hammock to read in outside - that would be awesome! Maybe next summer.

Do you prefer series books or stand alones?

I don't really have a preference. Most books I read seem to be in a series. There really aren't too many stand alones out there. It's difficult to begin a bunch of different series - I always end up having to reread the previous books before I can read the latest. But I don't mind them. I'm usually not ready to say good-bye to characters anyway.

Is there a specific book you find yourself recommending over and over?

I find myself recommending the Addicted Series by Krista & Becca Ritchie A LOT. SO good! If you haven't read this series yet, you must!

How do you organize your books?

I usually put books that are the same height in a row to make my shelves look neater and put books together that remind me of each other. For instance, I put Dualed, Monument 14, and Mila 2.0 next to each other. My shelves really need to be reorganized - they're a mess right now!

  1. My favorite snack while reading has to be dried mango. It's just so good. Love the survey as it's always fun to see whats going on in a blogger's head. :D Matt @ JC's Book Haven.

  2. Hahaha! I couldn't possible mark a book either. The thought makes me cringe. Like you use scraps of notebook paper, I'll even use tissues or anything at hand as a bookmark instead of crinkling my corners. I remember someone borrowed a book of mine and someone else that knows me well warned them they better use bookmarks while they were reading. I LOVE that we can now highlight passages, make notes, and know where we are in a book with Kindle. I spend a lot of time with series. Stand-alones are hard for me. Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. Oh yes, I don't dogear pages, either. I've used a tissue before, too, lol. I love being able to highlight on the Kindle, too. That's one of its best features besides the convenience of carrying a million books with you on one device! ;) Thanks for stopping by, Jaclyn! :)

  3. YAY, another great survey! I am bookmarking this so that I can do it myself :) It's so awesome to get to now other bloggers better just by knowing some of their quirks :D
I love that you can stop reading anywhere in a book, but that you start at the beginning of the chapter when you pick it back up.
    Thanks for sharing, Jennifer.

    1. I love these surveys!! If you tag anyone, TAG ME TAG ME! LOL! I agree - it's a great way to get to know bloggers and their quirks. It's really cool. Have you seen the Seven Deadly Sins one? I'm doing that one, too!

Many of my family members are like, "How can you leave off in the middle of a chapter?" LOL My husband HAS to stop at the end of the chapter. Sometimes I can't break away when I tell myself just one more chapter so I keep reading but can't make it to the end of that next chapter. I go to pick it back up and can't remember what was going on, lol. Thanks for stopping by, Lexxie! :D
