Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came.

She can't believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her—could destroy them all.

Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal.

They must team with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything— even what they cherish most—to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind.

War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing.

Katy
I still stared at Daemon, completely aware that everyone else except him was watching me. Closely. But why wouldn’t he look at me? A razor-sharp panic clawed at my insides. No. This couldn’t be happening. No way.
My body was moving before I even knew what I was doing.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Dee shake her head and one of the Luxen males step forward, but I was propelled by an inherent need to prove that my worst fears were not coming true.

After all, he’d healed me, but then I thought of what Dee had said, of how Dee had behaved with me. What if Daemon was like her? Turned into something so foreign and cold? He would’ve healed me just to make sure he was okay.

I still didn’t stop.
Please, I thought over and over again. Please. Please. Please. On shaky legs, I crossed the long room, and even thoughDaemon hadn’t seemed to even acknowledge my existence, I walked right up to him, my hands trembling as I placed them on his chest.

“Daemon?” I whispered, voice thick.

His head whipped around, and he was suddenly staring down at me. Our gazes collided once more, and for a second I saw something so raw, so painful in those beautiful eyes. And then his large hands wrapped around my upper arms. The contact seared through the shirt I wore, branding my skin, and I thought—I expected—that he would pull me against him, that he would embrace me, and even though nothing would be all right, it would be better.

Daemon’s hands spasmed around my arms, and I sucked in an unsteady breath.

His eyes flashed an intense green as he physically lifted me away from him, setting me back down a good foot back.

I stared at him, something deep in my chest cracking. “Daemon?”

He said nothing as he let go, one finger at a time, it seemed, and his hands slid off my arms. He stepped back, returning his attention to the man behind the desk.

“So . . . awkward,” murmured the redhead, smirking.

I was rooted to the spot in which I stood, the sting of rejection burning through my skin, shredding my insides like I was nothing more than papier-mâché.

“I think someone was expecting more of a reunion,” the Luxen male behind the desk said, his voice ringing with amusement. “What do you think, Daemon?”

One shoulder rose in a negligent shrug. “I don’t think anything.”

My mouth opened, but there were no words. His voice, his tone, wasn’t like his sister’s, but like it had been when we first met. He used to speak to me with barely leashed annoyance, where a thin veil of tolerance dripped from every word. The rift in my chest deepened.
For the hundredth time since the Luxen arrived, Sergeant Dasher’s warning came back to me. What side would Daemon and his family stand on? A shudder worked its way down my spine. I wrapped my arms around myself, unable to truly process what had just happened.

“And you?” the man asked. When no one answered, he tried again. “Katy?”

I was forced to look at him, and I wanted to shrink back from his stare. “What?” I was beyond caring that my voice broke on that one word.

The man smiled as he walked around the desk. My gaze flickered over to Daemon as he shifted, drawing the attention of the beautiful redhead. “Were you expecting a more personal greeting?” he asked. “Perhaps something more intimate?”

I had no idea how to answer. I felt like I’d fallen into the rabbit hole, and warnings were firing off left and right. Something primal inside me recognized that I was surrounded by predators.

Completely.

Accession by Terah Edun ~ Blitz: Excerpt & TWO Giveaways!

I'm super behind in my bookish life since I have yet to read a book by Terah Edun. I've been dying to read her Courtlight Series, and every time she releases a new book, I become even more anxious to get started. This book has everything I love to read about - sister rivalry, witches, a mysterious crash, and a whole lotta trouble, hehe.

So on that note, welcome to the Accession Book Blitz hosted by Xpresso Book Tours! I have an excerpt for you as well as TWO giveaways!  The first giveaway is for the chance to win an eBook of Accession while the other is blitz-wide with the chance to win a $25 GC to Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

Title: Accession
Series: Sarath Web #1
Author: Terah Edun

Sixteen-year-old Katherine Thompson wasn't trained to rule a coven. That was her sister - perfect, beautiful Rose. But when a mysterious plane crash kills off the heir presumptive of the Sandersville coven she has no choice. After stepping in to fill her sister's shoes, Katherine realizes she didn't have a clue - faery wars, depressed trolls and angry unicorns are just the beginning.

For centuries, her family has served the high Queens on both sides of the Atlantic but it is a well-known rule that mid-level witches stay away from high-level Queens. But when Katherine's youngest cousin vanishes without a trace in the Atlanta court and no one wants to investigate, Katherine decides to step into the darkness on her own. She soon discovers that nothing, especially in the Atlanta High Queen's court, is as it seems.

When she accidentally opens a rift in the search for her cousin, Richard LeCross, the Queen's warlock, decides that Katherine is more trouble than she's worth. He determines that this mortal, dangerously close to becoming a High Queen, needs to die. But killing Katherine is easier said than done. For a young woman who's always believed in right versus wrong, she's about to go head over heels into the dark side.

You know the old saying 'If I tell you, I'll have to kill you?' Katherine thought wryly while she waited for her sister and Derrick to do their worst. Well, I have the opposite problem. If I show you my gifts, you'll be dead. There's no explaining, no second guessing. Which was why even though she was furious with her older sister, she couldn't defend herself. Not as a witch. Katherine might not like her sister, but she loved her. Loved her in the way that siblings that fought like cats and dogs, but still hung together against a common enemy did. Since they were rarely on the same side of anything recently, Rose and Katherine had yet to face anything worse than the schoolyard bully they had taken down together when Katherine was in kindergarten and Rose was second grade. That incident had proved that blood trumped friends, at least in the all-out war over the marbles container, that is.

But now? Now, Rose and I never really see eye-to-eye at all, Katherine thought with a shiver. She must have been desperate to invite me on this stupid escapade. I know I was pretty stupid to accept the invitation. And now I'm going to pay for that. That hope that for once Rose wanted me along for me, as her sister...as a friend.

The Horde Without End by Nazarea Andrews ~ Blog Tour: Review & Giveaway!

It was supposed to be over...

Returning from Haven 18 was supposed to be the end. But nothing is ever easy - and in a world full of zombies, finding the missing is next to impossible. There are breadcrumbs. Tiny clues. But what are a few tiny clues in a world of the dead?

Nurrin is desperate to find her brother, but that will mean trusting Finn O'Malley. A man shrouded in secrets, who kills as easily as breathing. And the more she learns about him, the more questions she has. But she has learned one thing - the zombies are changing. Adapting. And this time, the Haven walls won't keep them out.

The Horde Without End went by so quickly for me! After that cliffhanger ending in the first book, I was desperate to find out what was going to happen next and read this cover to cover in one sitting, staying up late into the night. I couldn't put it down, not even for sleep.

Ren and Finn set out to find Ren's brother, Collin, and their friend, Dustin. They follow a trail of breadcrumbs Collin has tried to leave for them, causing them to run into not only zombies, but also gangs of people roaming the outside. They have to deal with the people living in the Havens. Not only that, but the zombies are changing and adapting, finding new ways to survive.

My only issue with the story, which is completely based on my own personal tastes and might not necessarily affect other readers, is that Ren insists on asking Finn questions he refuses to answer. This guy is a closed book, and I thought he'd crack by now honestly. I think I'd probably give up. But Ren isn't someone who quits, and I do admire that about her. He does reveal more of himself in this book than in the first, and there's more to him than I imagined.

The chemistry between Ren and Finn is off the charts hot. The further they try to push each other away, the crazier the attraction makes them. I remember thinking in the beginning of the first book that Finn wasn't going to have a big role in this series, but I was wrong and am glad I was wrong! Ren and Finn work together like a team without having to communicate - they can read each other in dangerous situations, which works to their advantage more than once. Together, they seem to be unstoppable.

Between the search for Ren's brother and Dustin, the chemistry between Ren and Finn, and the curiously changing nature of the zombies, I was hooked. The Horde Without End is a terrific follow-up to its predecessor, and I'm excited for the next installment!

I wish I could tell you that I was stolen.

Kidnapped off the street in some third-world country, sold against my will, while a desperate family back home waited and prayed and talked about me on the news.

I wish I could tell you that, because then you might understand.

What really happened? I walked to my fate with my eyes wide open. But before you say I deserved whatever happened to me, you should know. I was desperate. I was alone. I was afraid for my life. You would have done the same thing.

I thought things couldn’t possibly get any worse.

But then, I woke up in darkness, unable to move. There was only one thing I was sure of: I wasn’t alone anymore.

And then I heard HIS voice...

"Never say that word to me."

I had never heard his voice like that. Not once. My blood chilled in my veins. If I thought I'd ever been afraid of Tate before, it was nothing. Absolutely nothing compared to this.

I'd wanted to unnerve him, but instead, I seemed to have unhinged him. Unleashed something I didn't understand, and didn't want to.

"I'm sorry," I whispered.

"Too late," he replied, his chest rising and falling rapidly with each breath. His tone was pure venom, pure sin, pure fucking evil. "Too late for apologies."

In that moment, I had three choices.

I could fight him.

I could run.

Or, I could tie myself to the mast and meet him, measure for measure.

I chose the storm. With the hurricane himself standing there, his pulse pounding so loud I could almost hear it, I chose to stand tall.

What was happening? What was he about to do? I had no way of knowing, no way of guessing what'd he do. How he'd ruin me.

But I knew I could survive.

His hand lashed out and grabbed mine, lifting it to his face. Eyes half-lidded, he brought my fingers to his lips, my thumb pressing past them and up against his teeth. Finding resistance, for a moment, until he parted them and suckled it into the soft, wet heat of his mouth.

Mara Black is a connoisseur of love that lurks in the shadows.
