Q: Pick a book in your favorite genre that you'd recommend to a reluctant reader.

A: I'm a huge lover of horror, and I'd recommend anything by Poppy Z. Brite (born a female, is transitioning to a male and is now known as Billy Martin).

I've read two books by him so far:

Drawing Blood
by Poppy Z. Brite

My Rating: 4 / 5

Synopsis:
Escaping from his North Carolina home after his father murders their family and commits suicide, Trevor McGee returns to confront the past, and finds himself haunted by the same demons that drove his father to insanity.

Wormwood: A Collection of Short Stories
by Poppy Z. Brite

My Rating: 4 / 5

Synopsis:
A collection of erotic horror stories follows the adventures of solace-seeking lonely hearts on a North Carolina highway, behind a dusty Georgia carny show, in a Baton Rouge mausoleum, and an alley in Calcutta.

These might not be for the faint of heart after all, lol. ;D

What's your favorite genre and suggestion?

Happy #FF!!

    1. Think you might try out any of his books? They are hard to find - I usually can only find them in used bookstores and online because he hasn't published anything recently. Thanks for following! Following you back! :D

  3. Horror and historical romance are the two genres I really haven't tapped into yet. A friend of mine just lent me three of her favorite Dean Koontz books. The paperbacks are seriously beat up, a freaking chunk of it fell out! So maybe, just maybe I'll start my first horror soon. Yikes. Just so you know, those covers you have up there freak me out. That's how wussy I am.

    1. It's my mission to get you into horror, lol. ;) A huge chunk of my paperback copy of The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub fell out, and I'm going to have buy a new one. She must really love those books! Yeah, I'm kind of realizing maybe these books might not be the kind to ease reluctant horror readers. >.<

  4. I can't promise to give this one a try, Donnie. I always stay away from horror books because I am easily scared out of my wits. And our house looks like a perfect setting for horror so I don't want to add any more reasons for me to be scared. Hahahaha.

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. I don't blame you! If my house was spooky, I wouldn't read horror either! And I get scared from reading horror all the time - more so than if I'm watching a movie. There's something about a horror novel that creeps me out way more than seeing it on the screen. Probably because my imagination runs wild, lol. :D

  5. My favorite genre is mystery/thrillers, but horror is right behind them. These covers look awfully scary and I'm liking the sound of the books. I added them to my TBR list. Thanks for sharing an unfamiliar author with me. ^_^

    1. Awesome! I hope you love his books! The name Poppy Z. Brite really stands out in my mind. My husband introduced me to his books when we were still in high school and hadn't started dating yet. :) I'll always have a special place for these books in my sentimental heart. :) Thanks so much for stopping by, Sherry! :D
