Q: If you could get an ARC of any book, already published, or not yet, what would it be? - Suggested by Words I Write Crazy

A: Ever since I read the synopsis for The Body Institute by Carol Riggs, I've been dying to read it! I love science fiction stories where society has found a supposed solution to a problem, but the solution actually ends up causing more problems and raises ethical questions that aren't easy to answer. I love books that make me think what would the world be like if this really did happen? The premise of this story sounds shiver-inducing, and I can't wait to see what problems arise from being a Reducer.

Here's the synopsis from Goodreads:

Are we our minds...or our bodies?

Meet Morgan Dey, one of the top teen Reducers at The Body Institute.

Thanks to cutting-edge technology, Morgan can temporarily take over another girl's body, get her in shape, and then return to her own body - leaving her client slimmer, more tones, and feeling great. Only there are a few catches...

For one, Morgan won't remember what happens in her "Loaner" body. Once she's done, she won't recall walks with her new friend Matt, conversations with the super-cute Reducer she's been text-flirting with, or the uneasy feeling she has that the director of The Body Institute is hiding something. Still, it's all worth it in the name of science. Until the glitches start...

Suddenly, residual memories from her Loaner are cropping up in Morgan's mind. She's feeling less like herself and more like someone else. And when protests from an anti-Body Institute organization threaten her safety, she'll have to decide if being a Reducer is worth the cost of her body and soul...

What ARC are you wishing for?

Q: Happy New Year!!! What was your favorite book of 2014 - or books if you can't name just one? - Suggested by Alison Can Read

A: This is such a hard question! It really took me some serious thought because 2014 gave me an amazing year of some seriously fantastic reads. I discovered many new authors and delved into new series which, by the way, one of my goals is to finish reading them this year.

Honestly and truly there were only a couple of books I hated, and just a few I felt so-so about. Most of them I rated four and five stars - I chose what I read carefully and think this has a lot to do with what I see as a successful year in reading, lol.

One book that stands out to me is one that I haven't been able to stop thinking about since I read it. And that book would be...

The Sham is a novel I read in December, but I haven't been able to get it out of my mind since for many fantastic reasons. A mystery for mature, older YA readers, it starts off with a bang and is written in a way that had me questioning what was going on right up until the very end. The situation that happens in the beginning is hard to read I must warn you, but if you make it past that, you'll be amazed this is a debut novel. The Sham blew me away in 2014, hands down.

Q: What books did you give other people this holiday season? - Suggested by Alison Can Read

A: Santa brought my son (age 5) Transformer comic books and a really awesome Star Wars book that counts up to ten then starts counting by twenty-five up to 100.

For my daughter (age 12), we bought her comic books for her birthday & Santa brought her more for Christmas -  Deadpool, Spider-Man, Superman, Star Trek, Batman. She also got some manga books from my mother-in-law - Attack on Titan and Black Butler.

Santa brought me Feed by Mira Grant, Patient Zero by Jonathan Maberry, a Supergirl comic book, and a $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble! Already spent my gift card, lol. I renewed my membership and bought Horns by Joe Hill, the beauty pictured below, and These Broken Stars.

Q:  Book looks - Your favorite fashions from the books you've read -
Suggested by Go Book Yourself

A: I have three favorite styles I love to incorporate into my wardrobe - grunge, hippie, and punk. I do like the goth look although it's just not for me personally, lol.

I've wracked my brain trying to think of book looks for these and here's what I've come up with:

Hippie/Mod

The main character, Rosalyn, has an eclectic way of dressing from the 60's, and I love the 60's - the music, the fashion. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong decade. ;)

Grunge
Think Angela and Rayanne from My So-Called Life
and Nirvana. Yeah, think Nirvana.

Punk

I love this look! I think she might be described as more goth in the book, I can't remember exactly, but to me this cover model definitely looks punk. Pink punk, but punk.

Goth

I love the goth looks from this book. The older kind of goth, you know? And guess what? Isis kindly sent me an illustrated copy of this book in the mail! I love it to pieces and won't let anyone touch it, lol. Thank you so much, Isis! <33

What are your book look choices?

Q:  Book character(s) you'd like to see with their own Twitter page - Suggested by A GREAT Read

A: Anna Pierce from the Touched Girl Series by Robyn Jones

When Anna was only five years old, she traded her voice to stop having nightmares. Imagine how bad those nightmares had to be for her to agree to that! She can also see the potential future of people she comes into contact with - also part of the deal she made.

Eventually in the first book, the deal is off, and she must talk again. Can you imagine how much she would have to say? I'd follow her on Twitter for sure just for updates on her grandma and cousins let alone the vampire action, lol.

And her Twitter handle?

Q:  Blogger pet peeves? (Like when I've drafted an entire post, ready to publish it, and I see somewhere I've left out a html code...When I didn't even do my post in html) - Suggested by Take Me Away

A: I can't seem to get ahead. I try my best to get posts scheduled ahead of time so I'm not stressing about them last minute, but I can't seem to get that to happen! Argh!! I've also decided to try doing less promo posts and more original posts. With all the promo posts I do, it leaves me little time to write up original posts.

Do you have any blogging pet peeves?

Feature & Follow #55 ~ You Make a Better TV Show Than a Movie?

Q:  What book/series do you think would make a better TV show than a movie?

A: I'd love to see Eric Asher's Vesik Series become a TV show. It's one of my favorite series! The main character, Damian Vesik, is not only one of my book boyfriends but also a necromancer with a vampire sister living in a world with demons, fairies, vamps, gods, demi-gods, and more! If you love urban fantasy, you've really gotta read this series!

So much happens in these books that I'd fear much of it would be lost if they were made into a movie. Plus, with a TV show, I'd get to enjoy the story told in a visual format over weeks rather than just a time frame of two hours.

Q:  What's your favorite TV series that you can watch over and over again on Netflix?

A: Okay, get ready for a looonnnnggg answer, lol!

  • Doctor Who (the reboot)
  • Buffy
  • The Walking Dead
  • Heroes
  • Adventure Time
  • Portlandia
  • Star Trek (the original series)
  • The Office (American version)
  • Transformers (original series & new series)
  • MLP: Friendship is Magic

I missed this question a couple of weeks ago and can't resist answering it (it mentions the TARDIS, it MUST be answered, lol!).

Q:  If you had a time machine (i.e. a TARDIS), where would you go?

A: Wherever the Doctor will take me. Just kidding! ;) I'd want to go to the 60's. I have a lot of love for the music of that era and am interested in the culture - the protests, free love, the Vietnam War, and African Americans fighting against discrimination and segregation. A lot was going on then all at once, and I'd want to see it for myself.

Q:  Post a photo of your favorite coffee mug (or mugs if you can't choose just one).

A: Here's mine! I wanted to show the entire mug, but the pic didn't turn out well so I took another one. It nearly looks like two different mugs!

I'm a Trekkie and bought this when we were on vacation in Michigan earlier this year. There are all kinds of super awesome shops near our hotel, and the one where I bought this mug also has gifts for fans of Star Wars, Doctor Who, and super heroes like Wonder Woman and Superman.

Do you have a favorite mug? Let's see your mug shot!

Q:  What are your favorite books of 2014 so far?

A: There's been so many! It was so hard to narrow my list down to just a few. :P

Gah! It was so hard to choose just a few of my faves this year, but I managed to do it, lol. What are yours?
