The topic this week: Fairytale retelling vs. Original Fairytale
I prefer fairytale retellings. I like how the familiar stories take unique twists and turns, and the different ways authors choose to change them up into something fresh and new. There are so many young adult books that serve up the fairytales you might have grown up listening to with a modern twist or even with zombies or vampires thrown in, such as Alice in Deadland. I think it's exciting to find fairytale retellings with the paranormal mixed in. I own Alice in Deadland and can't wait to read it!
Which do you choose? The original or a retelling?
Coming up this week:
- My 2nd IWSG (Insecure Writer's Support Group) post
- The 3rd Blog Award I won last weekend--3 in one weekend, really cool! :)
I love retellings too! I haven't heard of Alice in Deadland before--sounds interesting!
ReplyDeleteIt does, doesn't it? I am just too excited for my own good to read it! If you decide to read it sometime, let me know if you like it. :)
DeleteHi! I hopped over from IWSG. I wanted to tell you there is a contest somewhere at Entangled Publishing for for a creepy (zombie) I think retelling fairy tale. Let me see if I can find the link again. I think the winning stories go into an anthology. Might be fun for ya! I'll be back...
ReplyDeleteThat totally sounds like fun!
DeleteFound it! Jessica Ferguson, a fellow IWSG member, posted this on her blog. Check it out. :))
