WiW ~ Jacob vs. Edward

waight-1

The topic this week: Jacob vs. Edward (from Twilight, haha!)

I think I'm over my whole Twilight phase, lol. I'll probably see the last movie sometime when it comes out just to finish out the series since I've seen the other movies. I'm not counting down the days or anything. :D

In Twilight, I loved Edward and didn't feel like Jacob was in the book enough for me to feel strongly one way or the other about him. I liked his character, but I didn't think of him as a potential love interest for Bella.

Then in New Moon, I was so angry with Edward abandoning Bella and freaked out at the same time with the way Bella basically lost the will to live over a guy (ok, vampire, whatev :D ). Jacob was such a good friend to her during those rough times, and he seemed so mature. He was falling for her, but he wasn't pushy about it.

During Eclipse, I found myself completely split down the middle. I could not for the life of me decide if I was Team Edward or Team Jacob. I was content to just let her be indecisive about a relationship. She had plenty of other things to worry about, lol.

Finally when I was reading Breaking Dawn, Jacob became so immature and whiny. Edward was too possessive. I didn't really like either one of them, but if I had to choose, I'd go with Edward in that book. I think the fact that the book was so poorly written in my opinion had a lot to do with my lack of interest in either one of them. I had a really difficult time getting through that book.

When it comes down to it, I'd say I prefer Edward overall. The idea of a perfect romance that Edward and Bella could have sold me even though that's completely unrealistic. Once Bella became a vampire, they both will live the same lifestyle, are so rich they'll never have to worry about money (wouldn't that be nice!), have all the time in the world to do whatever they want...I could go on, lol.

I do have to say this, though. Edward can't hold a CANDLE to Angel!!! (Been having Buffy marathons on Netflix) <3

WiW ~ light blog background vs. dark blog background

The topic this week: Light blog background vs. Dark blog background

This is one where I don't really have an opinion either way. :) I follow a lot of blogs, and they're all different colors with all different designs. I love each and every one of them--they're all beautifully done. I decided on bright colors for my blog because I love the color orange, it was easy to do for a newbie just starting out (ha ha), and the bright colors cheered me up (I started my blog in the bleak winter).

Either light or dark backgrounds are fine with me. :)

WiW ~ Adult fiction vs. YA fiction

The topic this week: Adult fiction vs. YA fiction

This is an easy decision for me to make--YA fiction all the way!! When I walk into the library, that's the first section I head to, and most of the books I recommend to my daughter and my friends are YA. I think YA is more interesting and exciting. I may be wrong, but it seems like there's only mysteries, romance novels, crime novels, and westerns for adults. If a YA book I'm reading has some mystery and romance in it, that's really cool, but I don't generally like mystery or romance as its own separate genre. I'm just completely drawn to YA and probably always will be! :D

Do you prefer adult fiction or YA fiction?

The topic this week: Peeta vs. Gale

Wow, this is a really difficult one! I really like both of them. I didn't like Peeta at first, but he quickly grew on me. I felt like I got to know Gale first and know him better than Peeta; however, once the game started, he faded quite a bit into the background. I think he's super cute, and there's more in common between him and Katniss. I choose Gale! Sorry Peeta! You're still an awesome guy! :D

WiW ~ fairytale retelling vs. the original fairytale

The topic this week: Fairytale retelling vs. Original Fairytale

I prefer fairytale retellings. I like how the familiar stories take unique twists and turns, and the different ways authors choose to change them up into something fresh and new. There are so many young adult books that serve up the fairytales you might have grown up listening to with a modern twist or even with zombies or vampires thrown in, such as Alice in Deadland. I think it's exciting to find fairytale retellings with the paranormal mixed in. I own Alice in Deadland and can't wait to read it!

Which do you choose? The original or a retelling?

Coming up this week:
  • My 2nd IWSG (Insecure Writer's Support Group) post
  • The 3rd Blog Award I won last weekend--3 in one weekend, really cool! :)

WiW ~ one book at a time vs. multiple books at a time

The topic this week: Reading one book at a time vs. Reading multiple books at a time

I now prefer to read multiple books at a time. They can't be similar at all or else I begin to mix up storylines. :)  I used to read one book at a time because I worried I wouldn't enjoy the book as much if I didn't completely focus on it. However, I've found reading multiple books to be advantageous, especially because I like to not only read books I've received for review but also books my group on Goodreads is reading. The most I can read at a time is four. Any more than that is overwhelming. :)

Which do you prefer? One book at a time or multiple books? How many books can you read at a time, and how many would be too much?

Coming up on Thursday 6/28:
I've received two blog awards over the weekend, and I'll share them with you tomorrow! :D

WiW ~ action adventure vs. romance

The topic this week: Action-adventure vs. Romance

I think I'm an action-adventure girl. My sister laughs at me because I refuse to see overly romantic movies, such as The Notebook. As soon as I see a preview for a movie such as that, I'm like, "Ick."

When I visit the bookstore, you will never find me in the romance section. :)  I just really don't like sappy, unrealistic love stories. If I'm reading a book where there happens to be romance in it, that's cool with me, even though I'm not a fan of romance as a genre. Romance (in novels that aren't strictly classified as romance only) is great fun to read about if it's portrayed realistically and done right.

How about you? Are you an action-adventure reader, or do you prefer romance novels?

WiW ~ Kindle vs. Nook

The topic this week: Kindle vs. Nook

I'm biased on this one since I'm a Kindle owner; however, I did consider all of my options before buying a Kindle. I checked out the Nook but thought it would be better for my kids than me. I'd like to get them a Nook color soon. I did make a mistake and bought a Kindle Touch instead of a Kindle Fire. I wish I had gotten a Kindle Fire basically just so I can read magazines on it. It isn't fun to read magazines without color for me, lol. And I must say that I do have to switch from my Kindle to an actual book I can hold in my hands whether it's paperback or hard cover. I could never just exclusively use an ereader. :D

What do you think? Is the Kindle for you or the Nook?

WiW ~ Graphic Novels vs. Traditional Novels

The topic this week: Graphic Novels vs. Traditional Novels

This one is pretty easy for me--I prefer traditional novels. I only have one graphic novel, and it's the first volume of Twilight, which is actually better than the book itself. I do love the drawings in graphic novels; I wish I could draw like that!

But most of the time, I can be found with a traditional novel. There are so many I've read, and so many I have yet to read. Let's just say that I hope the world really doesn't end this year because my to-be-read list is out of control, yet there are so many books on there that I'm looking forward to getting into! :)

Do you prefer Graphic Novels or Traditional Novels?

Weigh in Wednesday ~ Poetry vs. Prose

This is a new weekly meme hosted by Lauren from Epilogue Review. Each week there will be a something vs. something topic for you to post your thoughts about. Make sure to visit Lauren at her blog, Epilogue Review, and she has a link if you'd like to use her picture (shown above) as well as the blog hop code. The topic this week: Poetry vs. Prose

OK, so since I'm a total nerd :D, I decided to look up the words "poetry" and "prose" on the Merriam-Webster dictionary app on my iPod to help kick start my thoughts. I was really surprised to see a definition for "prose poem." (It's been a really long time since I've been in an actual English class.) In case, like me, you haven't heard of this or remember what it is, I've got you covered!

prose poem = a composition in prose that has some of the qualities of a poem

Does anyone have any examples of a prose poem? I'd like to check them out. :)

Poetry tends to intimidate me unless I'm the one writing it. Sometimes I feel like I'm missing what the writer is communicating to me and find myself floundering around trying to grasp the poem's meaning, although, in my opinion, it's a form of writing that can be open to interpretation. Maybe that's what is hard for me to grasp.

The more I thought about poetry in writing this post, the more I thought about my favorite songs. There are so many songs that have perfectly described emotions I've felt that I didn't have the words myself at the time to express them. There's something really beautiful about well written lyrics, and I really like to read the lyrics to an entire album I love in one sitting.

I do read much more prose than poetry though. It seems there is so much more prose readily available out there than poetry. When I get emails from Goodreads, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, etc. giving out information on new releases, I rarely see any new poetry books coming out. There is so much writing in prose that is just as beautiful as poetry to me. Ninety-five percent of my favorite pieces of writing are in prose. Does it seem to you that there is more prose out there than poetry?

Since I read more prose and am more comfortable reading this form of writing, then I'm going to go with prose. :)

What are your thoughts? Is it prose or poetry for you?

Weigh in Wednesday ~ Novellas vs. Anthologies

The topic this week: Novellas vs. Anthologies

My thoughts: I haven't read too many novellas or anthologies yet in my life. When  I read a short story, I'm usually disappointed that it's ended (which is a good thing) and left wanting more! It's nice to read a novella if I want a quick read, but not too quick--something to read that's shorter than a novel but longer than a short story. I think it's a nice option, and one day when I attempt to write fiction for real, I think I'll start out with a novella. :)

The topic this week: Love Triangles Vs. Insta-love

My thoughts: I go with insta-love, and here's why: the movie Donnie Darko. (Haha, big surprise I'd mention that movie, right?) There wasn't a triangle, but the two main characters--Jake Gyllenhaal's Donnie Darko and Jena Malone's Gretchen Ross--were so great together. Their relationship wasn't exactly instant, but it was natural and not forced at all. They fit together like two pieces of a puzzle, and they're one of my favorite couples ever. :)
