~ The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ~

Please excuse this photo. I took a picture of a picture, lol. I've been thinking a lot lately about how much I want to go back to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Located in Cleveland, Ohio, I took this picture several years ago when I went with two of my besties, Lauren and Morgan. We HAD to go - I cannot stress that enough - see the special U2 exhibit. If we had missed it, we would've regretted it for the rest of our lives! No joke. <3

God I love that place! One of the best museums EVER! I went again with my husband, two children, and mother-in-law in July of '11 for my thirtieth birthday. The special exhibit they had going on at that time was the women of rock. My daughter was thrilled to see a Taylor Swift dress, and we were both thrilled to see Lady Gaga's infamous meat dress. Although it didn't look much like meat anymore, lol!

I love seeing Jimi Hendrix's couch, which is always there, as well as really recognizable outfits different bands have worn during concerts. They of course have Michael Jackson's glove and a few of his outfits, including the red jacket he wore in the music video for "Thriller." How awesome is that?? Very iconic video. They have tons of Janis Joplin items - I love her! They have sheet music, hand written lyrics, letters, guitar picks, clothing from the above mentioned artists as well as Blondie, Elvis Presley, Donna Summer, Rush, Quincy Jones, Buddy Holly, the Beatles, Green Day, Muddy Waters, the Temptations...I can't even name them all!

They also have an exhibit you walk through and see how music has evolved over the decades right up until the present. So many people, especially kids these days, don't realize if it weren't for music back in, say, the 60s, some bands might not even be around today. I love where you can listen to some songs of different super famous bands, and then they have songs of bands who influenced them. You'd probably be really surprised some of your favorite artists' influences. Nirvana is one of the bands that sticks out in my mind - of course due to my horrible memory I can't remember their influences, but I do remember some of the groups were from the 60s and 70s. See what I mean?

And did you know that Led Zeppelin arose from the ashes of The Yardbirds? Yep, they did. After the Yardbirds broke up in 1968, their lead guitarist Jimmy Page founded what became Led Zeppelin. The Yardbirds are best known for their hits "For Your Love", "Over Under Sideways Down", and "Heart Full of Soul." Love them love them love them! I also happened to find this YouTube video of The Yardbirds performing a well known Led Zeppelin song I think you'll recognize:

In case you're like me and wondering why this museum is located in Ohio, the sign above explains why. It's really interesting that something so major happened in my home state, lol. Just about the only thing that has. ;)

If you haven't visited this place and you're a huge fan of music (it isn't all rock and roll), you really need to go and share your visit with me of course! :D

    1. Thanks! You should definitely go there. They have so many Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin things there. I was drooling, lol. I just wish they'd let you take pictures. Some people sneak them, and I don't know how they do it because there are workers everywhere to make sure you don't touch stuff, etc.

  2. I remember you talking about this. It's now on my list of places I want to go in the US. My boys are still into kid music, but they both love Queen. Great Think Out Loud.

    1. Thanks Robyn! I probably talk about this place all the time, lol! I've only been there twice and am dying to go again! Last time I went, my son was getting into everything. ;) I'm surprised we weren't kicked out. I'm sure you know it isn't easy telling an eighteen-month-old to stop touching everything in a museum. :p Really, it would be perfect to spend two days there. It's really hard to see everything in one day. There's just that much to look at honestly. :D
