Scientists are the new rock stars. The infection has been contained for nearly three months, and the world is celebrating. But humans are still dying. Rebekah Taylor has seen it firsthand. Her husband was killed right in front of her by the very creatures that humans were told they no longer had to fear.

Rebekah is determined to find out who is responsible for the death of her husband and the obvious cover-up. Fueled with revenge, she begins to find answers that lead to one frightening conclusion. The apocalypse might be over, but the battles are just beginning.

I've been excited to read RecruitZ for quite a while - the minute I first heard about it last December as a matter of fact. From the cover alone, I knew Rebekah would be a bad ass character, and while she didn't start out that way, she grew into the role. Right away I liked her and related with her feelings of loss. RecruitZ isn't a typical zombie novel - it's so much more than that with a conspiracy that's as disturbing as it is compelling.

In a post-apocalyptic world where zombies are supposed to no longer be a threat according to the government, Rebekah helplessly watches zombies tear her husband apart and believes his death was planned and covered up. Her friends don't believe her when she tells them what she saw, and I don't think they wanted to either.

Not only is she reeling from her husband's violent death, but she also must be careful not to reveal too much to the wrong person. She could be turned in and never heard from again, but she can't rest until she knows the truth and sets out to search for it. On the surface is denial and a glowing positivism about life after the outbreak while underneath, the dark and seedy side of humanity thrives. It's this dark, seedy side that Rebekah must explore to find out what's really going on and to avenge her husband's death.

RecruitZ is full of twists and turns I never expected, and I love it when a book keeps me in suspense. Rebekah is a character I love because she's strong yet also has her vulnerable side. She decides to take her grief and do something proactive with it, and I admire that about her. I'm looking forward to what comes her way in the next book.

  1. I need to read this book soon!!!!!! Great review Jennifer :) Hopefully I will be out of my slow reading zone soon and tackle this book!

Chanzie @ Mean Who You Are.

    1. Yes, Chanzie! I'm sorry we didn't end up reading it together - I read it at the last minute but flew through it, it was so good! I can't wait until you get a chance to read it. I really think you're going to love it! :D

  2. Rebekah sounds like the perfect MC for this story and one I would definitely root for. I also like how intense and twisty it sounds! Great review, Jennifer!

    1. I love Rebekah - she's so kick ass and awesome! I definitely would want her in my corner in a post-apocalyptic world! Thank you, Giselle! :D

  3. WOW! This sounds intense and sad and exciting. I love a great female badass and your review has me itching to one click, Jennifer!

    1. Oh man, Ali, it's definitely all of those things and more! Guess what?? When I went to post my review on Amazon today, I happened to see it's on sale for only 99 cents! Hee hee. Thank you, Ali! :D

  4. Jennifer, you know I don't read zombies...but I sooo want to read this one!! Recruitz sounds great and I love a kickass heroine. I also love twists and turns and a story that keeps me guessing. Yep, I'm thinking I'll be one-clicking this one. And it has zombies!?! ;)

    1. This book to me focuses more on the conspiracy and mystery of what happened to Rebekah's husband than the zombies themselves. I think what sets this book apart is the apocalypse has already happened, and when you begin the book, you're dropped in to the attack on her husband. Yay to one-clicking! lol Definitely will be keeping an eye out for your review!! :)

Leave a comment and make my day awesome! :D This is an award-free zone - thanks for your consideration though!
