Blog Tour: Review & Giveaway ~ Straight Laced by Jessica Gunhammer

Hey guys! Welcome to my stop on the Straight Laced Blog Tour hosted by Limitless Publishing. Click here to follow along with the tour. :D

Summer Jones seems to be perfect in every way. She’s always gotten good grades, graduated with honors and has never missed a curfew. So when Nate Thompson walks into Summer’s life, her whole world is turned upside down.

She envy’s everything he stands for; he’s wild, free and doesn’t have a care in the world. Not to mention he’s hot, has tattoos and drives a motorcycle. When Nate brings to her attention she’s too straight laced for him, she decides it’s time for a change.

She’s ready to start living the life she’s always wanted, but she’s scared to leave everything she knows behind and travel the journey alone. Will Nate be there to encourage her along the way? Or will the rebellion wear off and have her crawling back to her parents?

Nate’s always lived his life in the fast lane. He’s never wanted to be tied down and he doesn’t let anything get in the way of doing what he loves. That is until he meets Summer.

She’s everything he’s ever wanted but yet she’s everything he could never have. She’s smart, beautiful and on her way to the top. She’s way out of he’s league and he lets her know it, but yet he can’t seem to keep his mind off of her.

When Nate finds himself lying on the side of the road in the middle of the night, preparing himself for his last breath there is only one person that comes to mind, Summer Jones. He promises himself that if he makes it through this, he will do everything he can to win her over, but is it too late?

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

STRAIGHT LACED is a fun and flirty read with relatable characters and will have you yearning to experience young love again for the first time. I can't resist a bad boy falling for the girl next door type, and couldn't resist being drawn in by the cover.

Summer is a refreshing character - she and her friend, Tory, have recently graduated from high school - for being so young she certainly doesn't play silly games although she does have a tendency to jump to the wrong conclusions with little or no evidence to go on. What I liked most about her is that she faced problems head on. She's straight forward and says what she's thinking.

I wish the story had been longer - with more time it wouldn't have felt so rushed, and we could have gotten to know the characters better. Nate didn't seem to be that much of a bad boy to me. He rides a motorcycle and has tattoos but didn't have the typical I-care-about-her-but-won't-show-it attitude of a bad boy. He was honest with Summer, and the conflicts that came up were usually from Summer jumping to conclusions without any solid proof.

STRAIGHT LACED is a fun and light-hearted read you'll fly through in one sitting. You'll wish for more just like I did! I'd love to see another story about Summer and Nate that's more in depth and gives us more time to spend with them together as a couple.

MY RATING 3 / 5

Jessica Gunhammer recently married her high school sweetheart and they’re lucky to call Hawaii home. She graduated college in May 2012 with a degree in fashion design and quickly realized it was not the right fit for her. So, after spending several years in a fast paced fashion industry, she started looking for something new to keep her busy.

Reading has always been a passion of hers. However, she put this passion on the back burner, since she had no time to read during college. Soon after, Jessica and her mom started a publishing company. It was while working in the publishing industry that she rediscovered her love for writing. She’d always known she wanted to write, but never considered making a career out of it. After some feedback and support from her amazing family she decided to pursue her dreams of becoming an author.

When Jessica has time between reading, writing and running a business, you can find her enjoying all Hawaii has to offer. She likes to spend her time with her husband, family and dog Asia. On the weekends you can find them teeing off at the nearest golf course, playing volleyball on the beach or visiting the local farmer’s market.

    1. I'm sad you did, too! Thanks, Chene! I love the cover, too. Jessica is living the life! :D

  2. Fantastic review, Jessica! This does sound like a fun read. I do understand the desire for a longer story...sometimes character development (and sometimes plot development) needs a bit more time to give a story more depth. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!!

    1. Thanks, Brandee! It would have been a five if there hadn't been a rush through the story. The book is well written, and the characters are interesting and engaging. I just wanted more, LOL! It's a great story, so if it had slowed down and taken more time developing, it would have been perfect. :)

Leave a comment and make my day awesome! :D This is an award-free zone - thanks for your consideration though!
