Q: How have your reading habits changed in the past few years? Did you get interested in a new genre? Do you read more? Less? Why do you think your habits changed, if they did.

A: My reading habits have changed a lot. Several years ago, I used to not like reading books in a series back to back. Now, if I can, I prefer reading them back to back.

Last year, the New Adult genre exploded onto the scene, and I found myself reading a lot more NA than YA for the first time ever. I still love YA - I'll always have a special place for YA in my heart forever and ever. ;)

Since last summer, I've started reading a LOT more - I can read a book three hundred pages or less in one night. It'll take me about five or six hours, and I usually start around 10pm when the kids are in bed and everything is done for the night. I used to be a super slow reader because I thought I had missed something and would go back only to realize I hadn't missed anything at all. So essentially I was reading books twice over!

I was totally against eReaders when they first came out, but then I borrowed my friend's Kindle and changed my mind. I really believe if I hadn't gotten a Kindle, I might not have become a blogger or been able to discover so many awesome indie authors. Ninety-nine percent of the review books I receive are eBooks! There's room for physical books and eBooks in my life, lol. ;)

eReaders and blogging are definitely the two biggest reasons my reading habits have changed, and I wouldn't want things to be any other way. I really couldn't imagine going back to my life before blogging.

How about you? Have your reading habits changed, and why or why not? How have they changed or how have they stayed the same?

  1. For me, it depends whether or not it's a paranormal romance series or a teen series to know if I read it back to back or not.

And yay for reading a lot more! I'm jealous- I'm actually reading less than I used to, and I feel like that's a bad thing.

    1. What are some series you would want to read back to back? Harry Potter was the first series I read back to back, and now I can for every series where the books are all out. I've been there with reading less. I've had times where watching my son didn't allow for much time reading. I'd have to read at night after he'd go to sleep, but by then I was so tired I could barely keep my eyes open. You'll get less busy and get to read more at some point. I hope it's soon for you. :) Thanks for following, following you back!

    1. Thanks for following me back! I tried narrowing down the number of books I read in a month, but I've been unsuccessful so far. My TBR gives me anxiety over possibly not getting to read all of the books on there. Not to say I fly through books just to cross them off a list though. I love to unwind while reading, which is one of the healthiest ways I use to destress. Does your TBR give you any anxiety? Is it out of control like mine, lol.

  3. I've been reading a lot more NA lately as well. I was weirded out by eReaders at first too, and I could read about 400 pages a day. I have always liked to read a series all together, I hate waiting years for a series to finish & the only times I've done that have been with The Mortal Instruments series and the Lux series. Only because I'm obsessed with them.

    1. Yeah, like the whole NA thing seemed to come out of nowhere last year, and I couldn't help but read a lot of it. I have found some great series. I can't wait to read those two series! I own the books, lol. Congrats again on your feature! :)

  4. I love YA more than NA but I think this is because of my age :) Thanks for stopping by my blog.

    1. I love both - I miss YA since I haven't read as much of it lately. It's sweet and innocent and fun. No matter how old I get, I'll always love YA. Thanks for following - following you back! :)

  5. I love that you find time when everything is quiet to get lost in books! My biggest change has to be my new love for contemporary romance, whether YA, NA, or adult, I just freaking love the stuff. Hey, can you share that button info?

I'm super glad you discovered a love for indie books! hehe

    1. I tend to be self destructive, not to be a Debby Downer, so reading is one of the healthiest way for me to decompress and lose myself from reality for a while. I agree with contemporary - I wasn't much of a fan until recently.

For the button - go to http://aturntolearn.blogspot.com/2013/07/how-to-add-grab-my-button-code-to-your.html and there's a kick ass tutorial. Chanzie gave me the tip. :)

      Me too! haha ;)

  7. Long time follower, thanks for stopping by!

I hated on the kindles, too, when they first came out. "No, I don't want one. Pfffft. It's NOT THE SAME. It's not the same as holding a book in my hand! I like to sniff them!"

Oops, did I just type that? LOL I am such a book sniffer. But then my boyfriend bought me a Paperwhite and I had to eat some of that humble pie... lol

    1. You're welcome, Tiffany! :) You aren't the only book sniffer around here, lol. ;) I have a Kindle Touch but if it ever dies, I'm going for a Paperwhite. :)
