Top Ten Tuesday #5 ~ My Winter TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish

This week's topic ~ My Winter TBR

(Originally posted 12/10/13)
Update 2/3/14: I used some of what I had written for one of my Feature & Follow Friday posts since I lost all of my hard work. :( Plus I'm just lazy. ;)

Before I get to the good stuff, something terrible happened last night. I lost my entire TTT post after a couple of you guys commented on it. I really don't know what happened - I was trying to fix a couple things and all of a sudden it was gone. Like gone gone. Gone with the wind.

I wanted to cry. I worked on it all day yesterday - don't ask me why it took me all day, I have no idea! I made my top ten books I'm waiting for in 2014, so I'll try to replicate it as best I can. I know what books I had, so that'll help.

Unhinged (Splintered #2)
by A.G. Howard
Expected publication: January 7th 2014

I loved Splintered and rated it 5 stars. I never did write a proper review for it, so I'm planning on rereading it before delving into Unhinged as well as the novella that recently released. So excited to hang out with Alyssa, Jeb, and Morpheus again!

Dirty Wings (All Our Pretty Songs #2)
by Sarah McCarry
Expected publication: July 15th 2014

I loved All Our Pretty Songs and was lucky enough to receive a copy early through Netgalley. I know many bloggers didn't like it, and the reasons they didn't were the same reasons I loved it so much, lol. I'm excited for this because it's going to delve into the lives of the mothers from the first book - Cass and Maia and their friendship before they had their daughters. I wanted to know more about their back stories.

Love Letters to the Dead

by Ava Dellaira
Expected publication: April 1st 2014

I have a confession to make - Kurt Cobain's name jumped out of the synopsis at me. Laurel and I already have so much in common - I'd write letters to Kurt, Janis, and Heath Ledger, too. My love for Kurt and Nirvana is what led me to pick up All Our Pretty Songs as mentioned above. I'm looking forward to diving into this one!

After the End
by Amy Plum
Add to Goodreads
Expected publication: May 6th 2014

Young Adult. Science Fiction. Dystopia. Need I say more? *waggles eyebrows*

Alienated (Alienated #1)
by Melissa Landers
Add to Goodreads
Expected publication: February 4th 2014

I've been looking forward to Alienated for a long time. Love that cover! I haven't read too many alien stories, so I'm super excited!

Panic
by Lauren Oliver
Add to Goodreads
Expected publication: March 4th 2014

Before I Fall was just so amazing. I fell in love with Oliver's writing, and Panic sounds like it promises to be just as amazing.

The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender
by Leslye Walton
Add to Goodreads
Expected publication: March 25th 2014

First of all, love the name Ava! Secondly, this book sounds absolutely magical!

Teen Spirit
by Francesca Lia Block
Add to Goodreads
Expected publication: February 4th 2014

Believe it or not, I have a stack of books by Block on my bookshelf that I just haven't had the time to read yet. But I've heard so much about her Weetzie Bat series, I set out to collect them, especially once I read they're considered controversial in some places. For Teen Spirit - a ouija board? Teen spirit? I'm there!!

The Drowned Forest
by Kristopher Reisz
Add to Goodreads
Expected publication: February 8th 2014

Best friends have jumped over a reservoir tons of times, but one day, the jump goes wrong for one of them. The body is never found, but the friend comes back. Hooked yet? I know I am. :)

The Unseemly Education of Anne Merchant
by Joanna Wiebe
Expected publication: January 14th 2014

I recently read this book, rated it five stars, and have been busy writing up my review. Hopefully I'll have it done soon. A very strange and mysterious book, it will have you questioning everything you thought you knew about the characters and plot right up until the very end.

    1. I'm so sorry for taking SO long to respond to you, Mary. I lost this post and had to rewrite it but couldn't bear to do it when it happened. I wanted to cry. :( But I did my best to replicate it. I kept all the same picks, at least I think so, lol.

I want them all, too! :D

    1. Hi Jenna! I'm SO sorry to take forever in getting back to you. I lost my post and all of the work I put into it. I know it might sound crazy, but I worked on that post all day. I just couldn't redo it back then. I finally have redone it today! :)

I just finished Anne Merchant and am working on my review. Wow! What a story! :D

  3. Splintered is a series that I have on my to-read but haven't made it to yet for some reason or another. I really, really want to read it though. I love the covers so much. Love Letters looks like a really poignant read. It's not my kind of thing, but I'm really curious about it for sure. I feel the same way about Nirvana and Heath. I feel like we lose entirely too many people that we admire and relating that with the loss of her sister I bet is a great read. What a wonderful list! So sorry to hear you lost it initially :( That's happened to me once before too. Have a great one :D Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. It's so good, Jaclyn! And so beautiful! I had to have it in hard copy, and guess what?? The ink is purple! My fave color! :D When you get a chance to read it (I'm going to reread it when I get the chance), I'll be looking forward to your review. I hope you love it! The covers are beautiful.

A fellow Nirvana and Heath fan! Speaking of losing people we admire, I am so shocked hearing Philip Seymour Hoffman has died. Such a talented man. The first movie I remember seeing him in was The Talented Mr. Ripley. He was so good as Plutarch! It's going to be sad watching Mockingjay.

It was totally my fault. I highlighted the entire post I think to enlarge the text. I'm not 100% sure if that's the reason or not, but it was terrible! Top Ten Tuesday does take a lot of time, thinking up the books, then writing about each one and finding links. I wanted to cry! And it was my own fault! >.< Ah well, at least it's only happened once, and I've learned my lesson. :)

  4. I'm so sorry that happened, Jennifer! Blogger does suck sometimes, I have to say. Weird things happen when I'm working on my posts too. Anyway, I LOVE your list! I've been wanting to read the Splintered series. I've never heard of All Our Pretty Songs series, but I'm checking it out. :) I'm dying to read Love Letters to the Dead, Alienated, and The Unseemly Education of Anne Merchant. And now I'm curious about Teen Spirit...yeah, totally because of the Nirvana reference! *haha*

Kinda depressing around here post-Super Bowl. *ha*

    1. Thanks, Brandee. It was my fault. I'm still not sure what happened except I highlighted my entire post, I think to enlarge the text, and the next thing I know it's gone forever. >.< It was awful, and this meme always takes me a while - to think about the books, write a bit about each of them, and hunt down links. To have that all gone was devastating. :( All Our Pretty Songs was SO good, and it's funny because I loved it for the exact reasons other people hated it, lol. I recommended it to my friend, and she loved it, too. We agreed on why we loved it. I'm looking forward to the second book - it's going to take a look at the main two characters' moms when they were growing up. Another Nirvana fan! Yay!! :D

I'm sorry your team didn't win! But they made it there, and Peyton had the best season of his career AND of any quarterback in history. (At least that's what my husband told me, lol.) I know it's true about his best season, but not sure about the in all history part. ;) But I really wouldn't be surprised. He's such a nice guy. I really love him, and he hosted SNL one time. Man he killed it! He did such a great job, and he isn't even an actor. I don't hate either team, so it was really a tossup for me as to who to root for. But whew, it was a massacre. :(

  5. Holy cow! The Drowned Forest is completely freaky. What a hook! Man. Sorry your post got toasted in the blogosphere ether. I had a talk with my computer today and I wasn't very nice. I can't wait for your reviews!

    1. I know! I have no idea what it's all about, but it sounds super creepy. The minute I read they go jumping over a reservoir, I was like, "Not a good idea!" And I was RIGHT!!! LOL Thanks, Robyn, man it really sucked losing that post. All the time picking out books, hunting down links, and writing about each book all gone. I seriously was upset and wanted to cry. I couldn't help but laugh at "Sorry your post got toasted in the blogosphere ether." Had a good laugh at the way you phrased it!! XD I bet that talk with your computer wasn't very pretty. ;)
