~ Synopsis ~

The summer after graduation is supposed to be that first real taste of freedom - but not for eighteen-year-old Chloe Branson. Just as that breeze of freedom is making its way into her galaxy, her secret-service-agent dad drops a meteor-sized bomb of bad news on her and her sisters. An attempt has been made on the lives of Canadian boyband, Spaceships Around Saturn, during their USA tour, and the guys have to go into hiding ASAP. The only problem? In the midst of the crisis and media frenzy, their dad volunteered to hid the guys...in their house.

Six-year-old Emery is as ecstatic as any self-proclaimed Saturnite would be, but Chloe and her seventeen-year-old sister Aralie watch their summer plans crash and burn like a falling star. The SAS guys aren't happy with the situation, either. Bad boy Jules picks fights with Aralie about everything from his Twitter followers to his laundry, and heartthrob Benji can't escape Emery's fangirlisms for more than three minutes.

But after the super-cute Milo kisses Chloe during a game of hide-and-seek, she finally understands what Emery means when she talks about SAS being "out of this world." If this is what Saturn feels like, Chloe doesn't want to come back to Earth.

~ My Thoughts ~

My Rating: 5 / 5

With the gorgeous cover and the super awesome synopsis, I knew I couldn't go wrong with this one, and I was so right on. American Girl on Saturn was such a fun and engaging read. And witty! There were times I tried my best to suppress my laughter to avoid disrupting others around me - namely, my family - but the laughter burst out anyway. Then I told them if they wanted to know what I found so humorous, they'd have to read the book themselves. :D

Oh, Chloe! Oh, Milo! The two of them were so cute and paired up perfectly. Not in an unrealistic fairy tale way but the way two people can be halves that make up a whole. They didn't lose who they were when they were together. They didn't play silly games - they were just honest and straightforward, which I really liked. Both of them were really easy to read about and root for. I love Chloe. Love that girl!

Chloe had me laughing so hard with her crush on Milo that I felt like I had done a hundred sit-ups!! This first quote is her thoughts when they attempt a conversation away from everyone else for the first time: "God, Chloe. Lame much? They don't care about sleep. They run on caffeine, adrenaline, Oreos, and magic boyband juice from Saturn." Later, Chloe is trying to figure out what's going on with Milo after an unfortunate misunderstanding: "Someone shuffles through the house, and we both stand still, holding our glasses of milk and lingering by the fridge like two total weirdos  Milo and Jules round the corner and stare at us - like we're two total milk-drinking weirdos." Priceless!

Jules, one of the members of the band, is a total diva. Instead of being grateful he's still alive, he'd rather complain about not getting to perform and be around the fans. I just wanted to tell him I get that he's rich and famous with a million better things to do than be on lock down, but that he's lucky to be alive and safe so he actually will get the chance to perform again when everything calms down. No gratitude from that dude. I liked that he balanced out the characters - each of the members of the band had his own personality and were easily distinguishable, and there are five of them, so that's really saying something.

Overall, American Girl on Saturn is an absolutely fantastic story that will surprise you. If you think there isn't much that can happen in this book because a boy band is stuck in hiding with a family of three girls, you're wrong, and you really need to read this book! :D You'll feel like you did a hundred sit-ups without actually having to do them!
