Q: What were some of your favorite picture books as a kid? If you have kids, what are your favorites to read to them?

Omigod, I love this question!!

Where the Wild Things Are  by Maurice Sendak
So many great memories of my mom reading this book to me growing up. One of my faves to read to my kids. <3

Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
We have a joke in our house - when the kids start getting too loud, my husband and I tell them to hush with a bowl of mush. Works every time. Well almost. ;)

The Cat in the Hat  by Dr. Seuss
Well, anything by Dr. Seuss!! I love The Sneetches, too! :D

The Berenstain Bears Get Stage Fright by Stan & Jan Berenstain
This was the very first Berenstain Bears book I read as a kid, and I've collected them over the years to read to my kids. They're a great way to help teach your kids basic social skills and ways to handle problems that crop up.

Corduroy by Don Freeman
Omigosh, how could you not love this book?? So cute!

There are so many more I could list, but then you and I would be here all night, lol. How about you? What were your favorites growing up?

  1. I believe my mom still has my Corduroy book.
Great picks made me think of all the books I had when I was little. :)

    1. How old is your daughter? I might have some suggestions for her to try if she and my daughter have similar tastes in books. :) I loved it when my daughter read the Harry Potter series back to back either last year or the year before and the Hunger Games trilogy. Just wait until you can get her hooked on YA! :D

  3. I really want to do this week's FF. I love your selections. Where the Wild Things Are is so magical. It is one my favorite books to read aloud. Cat in the Hat, for sure. I haven't read Corduroy. My absolute favorite book as a kid was Little Critter and I still have it, though John took a crayon to a couple of the pages. I have a bunch of new favorites like Pete the Cat and Miss Mary Mack and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (do not misspell that on Amazon or whoa baby).

    1. I have such great memories of my mom reading WTWTA when I was a kid, and I knew that was definitely a book I had to share with my kids, too. :) You've gotta read Corduroy! It's a classic. I've read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to the kiddos - what happens if you misspell it?? People with pitchforks come out?? O.o lol

    2. Oh my goodness, porn happens when you spell it chica instead of chicka. I had no idea Amazon even showed naked boobies!

I just reserved Corduroy at my library. Can't wait to read it with John!

  4. Nice! Don't think I had that particular Berenstain Bears book! I have a lot of them though! Although I keep meaning to dig one out for my niece since my sister asked me to awhile back. But the children's books box is kind of hard to get to in our basement!

    1. That's funny 'cause If You Give a Mouse a Cookie just about made my list. :) Even after my son can read himself, I'll read picture books just because. I gave a copy of Oh the Places You'll Go to a friend of mine when he graduated high school, lol. He appreciated it as a fellow book lover. :)
